Classroom Management
My classroom management is based on building a tight-knit, collaborative community with my students. I believe that in order to maintain control and keep the classroom a place where we all respect each other, most behavior management should be handled by me, in the classroom. The biggest way I do this is by utilizing logical consequences. For example, if a student makes a mess, they’re not in detention. They simply clean it up. If a student wastes class time by talking instead of working, they will lose out on other free time in order to complete that assignment. I am currently learning more about these practices via Responsive Classroom.
Many of the other strategies I use complement my classroom management style, keeping students engaged so they are not distracted and causing mischief, and building our community as one that knows they can rely on one another for support and encouragement. As a class, we work hard, we play hard, we have fun, and we learn something new every single day.
